On Saturday, April 27, the Friends of the Oklawaha Greenway will officially designate part of the greenway as a birding trail! See the announcement below for all the exciting events at the grand opening and ribbon cutting. But you don't have to wait until then — Signs have already been installed which include a map and information about birding.

The Oklawaha Greenway boasts three eBird hotspots, areas of high bird activity. At the south end is Jackson Park, at the north end is Berkeley Mills Park, and midway between the two is the Patton Park access.
The new birding trail welcome sign has been installed on the Patton Park access, which leads to the birding platform and native plant garden. From there visitors can walk north or south on the greenway to learn more about birds and their habitats.
We hope to encourage local birders to utilize the greenway as an area to explore native species. In addition we want to introduce local residents to the world of birding, and educate them on the fundamentals. Finally we wish to welcome guests from other areas and introduce them to birding in Hendersonville. The greenway has a variety of habitats including forests, meadows, wetlands and creek banks. This makes the area ideal for a variety of species year-round.
